Outdoor Weddings in Helen GA, 5 money saving tips.

Weddings in Helen At Gabby’s Cabins.

When planning a weddings in Helen on a budget, you have to be prepared to do things outside the norm.  You might want to consider planning your wedding carefully and investing a little more time to think about budget, rather than spending a lot of money. Look at some of these straightforward, yet tremendously efficient, weddings in Helen preparation tips.

5 Marvelous Weddings in Helen Planning Tips…

- Wedding Gown. Your wedding dress does not have to be encrusted with diamond jewelry for you to look fabulous in it.  The Duchess of Cambridge beat you to it. In fact, you could easily pull off wearing a dress which was worn by your mother, grandma, aunt, or perhaps your mother-in-law. Get a good seamstress to make alterations to the gown and you’ll save a massive amount of money.

- Reception Foods. Escape from having a seated dinner at your wedding reception; it is too costly. Think about doing a buffet type wedding dinner with low cost, yet appetizing food items, that your family and friends will enjoy. Bear in mind, you won’t have to serve beluga caviar for the wedding party to be classy — just get it cheap and keep it simple. With dinner being one of the largest expenses for the weddings in Helen, this idea should be of enormous assistance when trying to save some money on the budget.

- Wedding invitations. Invite those you like, not who you “know”. Weddings in Helen on a budget involve sacrifice — as a result, you will NOT be able to invite everyone you’ve ever met. Keep the invitation list as small as possible to cut back on spending. The more individuals that come, the more pricey the wedding will get, period.  Quick tip: A bigger group will NOT make the celebration any more enjoyable.

- Make A List. A checklist of everything you need at the wedding is essential. Every last conceivable detail has to be considered and then put onto the list. When the list is finished, order everything from most important to least important. This will help you make those essential “keep or kick” decisions down the road.

Fishing In Helen Georgia

Fishing in Helen Georgia. Local Fishing At Gabby’s Cabins in Helen.

Rainbow trout are a main staple for most fishermen in Helen Georgia. However, there are many species available in the nearby lakes such as bass, catfish, crappie, and bream.

The upper portion of the Chattahoochee River runs through the entire city of Helen Georgia, and is open year round, and is regularly stocked with rainbow trout.

Fishing at Gabbys Cabins in Helen

One of my absolute favorite activities  is to spend the day fishing in Helen Georgia for my limit of nice mountain fresh rainbow trout. The rainbow trout typical size is around 12″, but there are several taken out on a daily basis as large as 19″.

Be aware that during the summer season the portion of the Chattahoochee River running through Helen Georgia between the hours of about 11:00am to 7:00pm is so full of tubers that you have to drive a few miles outside of the main city area up into the Chattahoochee Wildlife Management Area (WMA) to get a decent fishing spot. The Chattahoochee River running through the WMA is a seasonal trout stream, and is also regularly stocked.

Fishing In Helen Georgia.

Whether you are wading your way down the Chattahoochee River through the city of Helen Georgia, or up in the Chattahoochee WMA, both are almost certain to yield your daily limit in perfect size fresh rainbow trout ready for a night of excellent grilling.

The trout fishing is perfect from around March till around the end of June.  The Helen GA Tubing operations begin on Memorial Day every year, and end on Labor Day every year.  So if you are fishing in Helen Georgia during the Helen Ga Tubing times, make sure you are up and on the river early in the morning, and plan on getting run off the river by the Helen GA tubing crowd by around 11:30am

The best way to fish the Chattahoochee River through Helen Ga. is to put on a set of chest-high waders, choose a spot to begin, and just work your way downstream until you are tired, or until you have caught your limit. There is really no one stretch to fish thats better than the other. The entire stretch is full of many deep holes and decent size rainbow trout.

The main baits to use are crickets, corn, and spinners. The most successful spinners seem

to be any of the rooster tails. The only place I know you can by crickets anywhere near

Helen Georgia is at the Kwik Sac convinient store just down from the Helen Flea Market. The crickets there are a bit pricey, so you may want to try to get a tube or two somewhere else before you get there. Farm House Produce on the way to Helen sells them at a reasonable price.

One really good part about fishing the Chattahoochee River through Helen GA is that the majority of the day you are under shady trees, and that can make for a perfectly enjoyable day when the temperature is climbing up during late spring, summer, and early fall.

HELEN GA

Cabins in Helen

With all the Helen GA attractions that are available to visitors, one could hardly ever get bored. You name it; this small Alpine style village nestled up in the Northeast GA Mountains has it all.

Tubing has become one of the biggest attractions in Helen GA to date. There are two main tubing operations located here. One is Cool River Tubing, and the other is the Helen Water Park tubing. Every day, weather permitting, hundreds of hot visitors jump on a pink or green tube at the starting point upstream, and float for several hours down a

 Chattahoochee river Chattahoochee river

lazy Chattahoochee River, winding down among all the shops, hotels, and small patio diners through this small mountain resort. This is an excellent way to spend a hot day, the water is cool, and most of the journey is well shaded under mountain forest cover.

Miniature Golf has also become a favorite among visitors. Helen GA offers three miniature golf facilities;  Pirate’s Cove, Hilltop, and Alpine Miniature Golf.  Each facility has varying advantages.  For example, Pirates Cove is the most modern, and is located closest to all the other main attractions in Helen GA.  Alpine Miniature Golf offers a much larger and roomier course, along with a unique scenery, and it has a really nice 1950′s style ice cream shop serving first class hand-dipped ice cream.   Hilltop, on the other hand, offers a spectacular mountain view and a nice evening breeze.

helen ga places to fishTrout fishing has still held its place as being a hugely popular activity in Helen GA. There are miles of well-stocked trout streams with the Chattahoochee section running directly through the city being open year round. The streams are mostly stocked with good-sized rainbow trout, and even the less experienced trout angler can fill up a stringer pretty quickly.

Probably the main attraction here for visitors, outside of tubing, is the gift shops. Helen GA has over one hundred unique gift shops offering gifts from cheap souvenirs to high quality collector and art pieces. On any given weekend, the streets here are filled with hundreds of visitors simply strolling in and out of all the various shops while munching on snacks like fresh made fudge, hand dipped ice cream, and hot dogs and pizza.

Don’t eat before you get here. Helen GA offers a plethora of foods from funnel cakes, to all sorts of sweets and handmade candies, to fresh fudge — made right before your eyes –to some of the most unique small patio cafe-style diners overlooking a cascading mountain river.  Many of the restaurants here also offer beer, wine, spirits, and mixed drinks. So trust me, you want to arrive with an empty stomach.

There was a time years ago that Helen GA was mostly a place to go for just a day.  But now, with all the added attraction, and nice hotels ranging from budget to first class, visitors find that it’s very easy to get up here, and be well entertained for three, four and even five days at a time, and leave with a desire to return soon.

Places To Visit In Helen Ga.

Helen GA is an interesting town to visit with an odd mix of charm and too much fun

alpine helen DownTown Helen

depending on what time of day you come and visit or what month you visit in. If you come to Helen GA during October I would be careful, you probably won’t want to visiting Helen GA if you would prefer to associate with sober individuals. If not then Helen GA holds Octoberfest every year with many options for this sort of crowd. For the family, Alpine Helen GA offers an interesting tourist site to visit and shop around for standard tourist gifts. During the summer Helen GA also has tubing on the river which is a really cheap option for those who would like a lazy ride down the river. Flee Market Tubing offers tubing for three dollars and you can get a full afternoon worth of activity during the summer. They also have a couple of souvenir shops to hit up where you can get homemade goods from.

Toccoa Falls can be seen after a short walk to the 186 foot high waterfall located on the

campus of Toccoa Falls College. Toccoa is reportedly the Cherokee Indian word for Beautiful. Toccoa Falls College is actually surrounded by national forest and has many different options for hiking including a two mile hike to the lesser known Contentment Falls located past the end of Beaver Dam Trail near the entrance to the path to Toccoa Falls.

Tallulah Falls Gorge

Whether you are an outdoor enthusiast or simply looking for a beautiful place for a picnic in Helen GA, this is a necessary spot to stop. For the more extreme of us there is the option to kayak or swim in the river at the bottom of the gorge. There is an amazing view from both the middle of the suspension bridge and the overlooks scattered around the park. There is a variety of levels of difficulty depending on your choice but nothing terribly strenuous. The park is kept in great shape year round with a variety of activities offered throughout the year such as night hikes or late night canoeing on Tallulah Lake.

If you decide to stop at the gorge then there is definitely a need to stop at Isabelle’s for lunch or dinner after your hike. Isabelle’s is a great option if you want a “home-cooked” southern meal and provides sweet tea that will give northerners something to dream about. Isabelle’s is located right off of the side of 441 if you are heading south through Tallulah Falls or on the left if you are heading north.

Cabbage Patch Hospital

This is a great place to visit quickly if you have little girls or if the weather is not very

supportive of hiking. The Cabbage Patch Hospital is located in Cleveland, Georgia and offers the opportunity to look around and to even name a Cabbage Patch doll. You do not actually have to purchase a Cabbage Patch doll in order to name it which is a good option if you are on a tighter budget or have no need for a Cabbage Patch doll.

Alpine Helen GA.

Alpine Helen GA.

Alpine Helen GA, located in White County in the mountains of northeast Georgia,

was once just a sleepy little town. When the city fathers decided they wanted to attract visitors to the area, they came up with a plan. They decided to model Alpine Helen GA after an Alpine village. Everyone got on board and got to work, and the results paid off…big!

Today Alpine Helen GA is a popular destination for vacationers from across the nation. In fact, it’s the third most frequented vacation destination in  Georgia. It’s especially popular with residents from Atlanta who often drive up for weekend getaways and shopping trips. Alpine Helen GA has its own unique charm. The

streets are lined with half-timbered buildings donning steep roofs and gingerbread trim, and many are embellished with whimsical hand-painted murals. Just off the highway that runs through downtown, you’ll find cobblestone lanes and foot bridges across the noisy stream. The downtown area of Alpine Helen GA has squares, fountains, and grassy areas by the river for picnics or for just taking a break.

A stroll down the sidewalk, here at Alpine Helen GA will bombard you with the tantalizing aromas of the candy kitchens and the eateries that cook sausages, funnel cakes, smoky barbecue, and grilled steaks. Before you know it, you’ll be sitting in an open-air café or plopped down on a bench enjoying a bite or two.

Shopping in Alpine Helen GA is an adventure in itself. Many of the quaint shops offer European imports, while others sell gourmet coffees, Christmas items, wines from local wineries, toys, apparel, or locally made arts and crafts. At the north end of Alpine Helen GA is a rambling flea market with all kinds of stuff, including antiques, collectables, and tools, along with homemade jams, jellies, syrups, pickles, relishes, and chutneys. You’ll also find locally grown fresh fruits there. There’s always a man out front boiling peanuts or frying pork skins in a big black pot. Be sure to purchase some for a snack.

You’ll find plenty more to do besides shopping, here at Alpine Helen GA too. There’s hiking,

horseback riding, panning for gold, digging for gemstones, touring local wineries, and trout fishing in the river, a nearby lake, or at a trout farm. In the summer, there’s a carnival at the south end of town with rides, go-carts, and a miniature golf course. In warm weather, tubing is popular, or you can drive up the mountain to the lake at Unicoi where you’ll find a sandy beach and clear water for a refreshing swim.

If you’re willing to drive just a few miles, Brass Town Bald, Georgia’s tallest peak, is nearby. If you drive in the other direction, you’ll discover the breathtaking views of Tallulah Gorge. Also near Alpine Helen GA are Indian mounds, the Cabbage Patch Kids Hospital, museums, large lakes, and a great covered bridge that’s perfect for photos and picnics. Also, just north of town is Anna Ruby Falls. There’s a nice paved pathway that follows the river and the falls.

When mealtime calls, you’ll have a wide choice of restaurants. Several in Alpine Helen GA serve authentic German cuisine and beers, but there’s also Mexican, pizza, seafood, steaks, family buffets, bakeries, delis, steak houses, and some awesome barbecue. Plenty of the local eateries offer excellent Southern country cookin’, and if you’re in a hurry, there are several fast-food joints.

Alpine Helen GA.

As for lodging, there’s a wide range of options, along with a wide range of prices. Hotels,

motels, and inns downtown are very convenient because you can walk everywhere instead of having to drive and look for a parking place. If, however, you prefer more privacy, you can rent a rustic cabin or a truly luxurious cabin or vacation home, some of the best in the Alpine Helen GA area are at Gabby’s Cabins, right here in Alpine Helen GA. Many of the rental cabins are complete with large hot tubs, pool tables, and foosball tables. Also, there are a couple of top-notch resorts near Alpine Helen GA including the Brass Town Valley Resort. The lodge at Unicoi State Park, just up the road from Alpine Helen GA, is a beautiful place to stay, and it has a wonderful restaurant, shops, a lake, and meeting and convention facilities.

You’ll love a trip to Alpine Helen GA! It’s surrounded by the natural beauty of the mountains and forests, and there’s lots to do and see. It’s only 90 minutes from Atlanta, and about an hour from Lake Lanier. Any time is the perfect time for a trip to Alpine Helen GA. There’s more for kids to do in the summer, but for an adult getaway,

you might want to come in October for Oktoberfest – a huge celebration of German music, dancing, authentic foods, and lots of German beer! Also in the fall, of course, is the colorful kaleidoscope of autumn leaves. In spring, the mountainsides are just coming alive with wild flowers and budding trees. In January and February, you won’t have to worry about any crowds, and you might just get to see the mountains covered with snow. My favorite time to go to Alpine Helen GA, however, is in December. The town is decked out in her holiday finery, looking just like a storybook village. Most of the vacation rentals Such as Gabby’s Cabins drop their prices in December, also. I do a lot of my Christmas shopping in Alpine Helen GA every year!
